58. Deliver an Amazing Speech

To understand this goal, you need a little backstory. One thing that I have never been good at is public speaking. I used to hate having to give oral presentations during high school. My hands would be shaking, and I would have to read practically the whole speech because my mind would be a complete blank. I guess it is a common enough story, but here's the part where it gets kind of interesting. I actually enjoy giving presentations now. I would even go so far as to say that giving presentations is my favourite aspect of my current job. How did I go from hating public speaking to enjoying it? Well, it certainly didn't happen overnight. I had to bluff my way through several shaky speeches. I do have a few things that I think were big turning points for me. 1. I won a Japanese speech contest. In order to improve my Japanese, I participated twice in the local Japanese speech contest in Miyazaki, and in my second year, I won! Not only was this a huge confidence boost, but it a...

53. Make a Time Capsule

My image of a time capsule is burying a small box of treasures underneath the ground, however, since I am not sure which country I will be living in five years from now, it seems pretty silly to go burying things. Instead, my friend Rikki and I decided to do a time capsule exchange. We both wrote letters to ourselves and gave them to one another to keep until the agreed upon opening time, five years later. Hopefully we don't loose or forget about them! haha Rikki came to visit me in Miyazaki. This is when we decided to write the letters.  Goal completed 3/5/2014!

34. Crochet a blanket

One of my favourite blankets still to this day is one that mum crocheted. It is so warm and colourful! There is just something about hand-made things that makes them that much more enjoyable. Crocheting my own blanket was always going to be a monstrous task, mostly because I get bored of things easily. I think this may have taken me over a year to complete. I would give up, then come back to it, then give up again, but finally I finished it! After I completed it, I gave it to one of my good friends in Canada. As it was my first blanket I made a lot of mistakes so it has probably fallen apart by now, sorry B! I really want to make a second one and keep it for myself, but I still haven't gotten around to it yet. Maybe one day! Goal completed 16 June, 2013.

100. Help someone write a goals list

Some people may think it is cheating to have two of the goals on this 100 goals list to be about writing goals. However, if you ever sit down and write 100 goals, you will find that it is not an easy task. It took me three months to finally finish the list. Also, I am a believer in the benefits of goal setting, which is why I set the challenge to help/inspire someone to write their 100 goals. My younger sister stepped up to the challenge, taking inspiration from my own list, and numerous discussions we had about goals. In turn, after reading her completed list, I was inspired to revise a few of my own goals. I hope she finds as much joy in pursuing her list as I have so far. Looking forward to crossing a few off with you sis! Goal completed 11 June, 2013

73. Braid my own hair

When I was in high school, I used to love to get my friend Cassiey to braid my hair. I always wished I could do it myself, but my arms would always get tired so I would give up half way through, or it would just look terrible. When I was writing my 100 goals list (and starting to run out of ideas) I decided that perhaps it was worth learning how to do it myself. I have to say, it took me quite a few tries and some seriously dead arms, but I was eventually able to get a pretty decent braid. Unfortunately, I can't find a decent picture of it, and since then I cut my hair short. Recently it is finally starting to grow back, so perhaps I will be able to try it again soon. Goal Completed April, 2013

30. Drive a Convertible

It really pays to have friends with good tastes in cars! Not only did I get to drive this, but I drove it on the right side of the road, which is the wrong side (for me). It was exhilarating and just a little bit scary. I don't think I could ever own a car like this, I would be too terrified to drive it, but I can at least cross it off the list! October 2012.

17. Live in Japan for a Year

In 2001 I did a homestay in Saga Prefecture for 2 weeks. I spoke absolutely no Japanese at the time, and my host family didn't speak English. The experience inspired me to study Japanese, and eventually led to the dream of living in Japan. So, in July 2011 I packed up my life and moved to Miyazaki, Japan to teach English on the JET Program. 6 years later, I am still living in Japan!
